Remember I told you guys I had a lot of hobbies? Well, here’s another one that I’m sure everyone can relate to: I’m a huge fan of music discovery.
For me, defining music discovery is two-fold. First, it’s the act of discovering new music. Second, is getting the opportunity to tell someone about an artist with the hope that I become one of their many channels of music discovery.
So with that being said, today I want to tell you about these artists I recently discovered. Let’s call this feature Artist Spectrum.
Today’s Artist Spectrum features two sisters from the Midwest, Indianapolis to be exact. Their names? Lily and Madeleine Jurkiewicz…or just Lily and Madeleine for short. These girls were literally relatively unknown, before the monster that is the Internet got a hold of them and helped illuminate their previously obscure talent.
They recently debut their first single, “Devil We Know” in the New York Times. That’s a pretty big deal for two girls who were unheard of just a year ago. Oh, I forgot to mention that Lily and Madeleine are 16 and 18 years old, respectively. What they lack in age however, they make up in raw talent, and their music conveys a very mature and accomplished sound that most artists take years to achieve. On the heels of their EP release, The Weight of the Globe earlier this summer, teenage sisters Lily & Madeleine have announced their debut, self-titled album due out on October 29th.
Their new album will be released on CD, LP, and digital format via Asthmatic Kitty Records (Sufjan Stevens, Chris Schlarb) If you’re a vinyl nerd like I am, a limited edition version pressed on white vinyl will also be released. Check it out here.
Check out the video for their single, “Devil We Know”, and decide for yourself. If you like it, pass it on. If not, that’s okay. I hope you at least gave them a listen!
I hope we’re as interesting as we look.
